Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, a Soulslike that many consider one of the toughest ever made, is getting a definitive edition with the release of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition. A game demo is being released exclusively for the PC on February 6, 2024, to celebrate the upcoming release.
This is also the release date for the full version of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition, which will be released for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. There is currently no mention on how much this updated version of the game will be priced.
This demo makes me wonder if this updated version of the game will see some PC improvements, as the current version of the game. At least, I hope that this is something that’s happening, as well as with the original version of the game, as I’m still seeing people having issues with it. The performance issues caused me to skip the PC version this time, and 99% of the time, I play my Soulslike titles on the PC. Well, unless it’s a console exclusive, that is.
What is Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition?
The upcoming Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition is a release of the original game and the three DLC packs that were released for the game. These include the Battle of Zhongyuan, the Conqueror of Jiangdong, and the Upheaval in Jingxiang. These DLC packs include new characters, levels, Devine Beasts, and end-game content. This will also include the collaboration content from Naraka: Bladepoint, Nioh 2, and Lies of P.
This is perfect for someone who has been on the fence about picking up Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, as they’ll get all the available content in one neat package.
What makes Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty so challenging?
I feel that when people say that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is so tough, they are taking things out of context. I don’t feel the game is any harder or more challenging than most Soulslikes, including those from Fromsoftware. Instead, it’s the parry gameplay mechanic that adds the extra challenge. While some games provide a deflect (parry) mechanic, there are ways to get around this during combat to complete your objective. Not so much in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and being able to parry is a requirement for progressing and defeating enemies.
If you can’t pull off successful deflects, you’ll have a rough time with the game, and this is precisely what has soured countless players with the game, with many claiming the deflect window was too small. Honestly, I felt that the parry window in Fromsoftware’s Sekiro was less forgiven, and I managed to beat that by the skin of my teeth.
Nonetheless, the game makes up for that by providing you with several NPC companions to help you during battle and help ease the burden, at least for most of the game. At times, I felt that the companions made things a bit too easy, but they are nice to have nonetheless.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. You can read our review of the game here.
