Sega released the Frosty Faustings XVII Recap video on YouTube for their first Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. major (tournament) since the game’s Steam release. The excitement is definitely there as Sega continues to deliver the goods. Seiji Aoki, project lead of the Virtua Fighter Legacy Project, was also there to discuss the passion the West is having for the game’s resurgence. 128 competitors weren’t enough. This led Sega and the team to double the prize and entrants.
Japan’s HimaJean and US’ Tenguman went blow for blow in the finals with HimaJean coming out with a 3 – 1 win to bring it home with his main, Jean Kujo. The hard-hitting karateka character took in a lot of opportunities against Tenguman’s Aoi or mistress of the reversals. Tenguman climbed out of the Loser’s bracket in an attempt to show HimaJean the business.
For a bit more of the Top 8 breakdowns, Street Fighter VI’s TastySteve and TeamChris did the play-by-play. Several VF competitors were in attendance including Dark Nova, GriffyBones, and Setsuna_X, Shag, for the high-level bouts on Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. from the Tampa Never Sleeps youtube channel.
Sega is really throwing a lot into the rise of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., including the new shirts and updated version. The momentum is only gaining ground since the Ultimate Showdown comeback. Especially as Virtua Fighter 5 makes its way back to the local scenes offline. Evo Japan 2025 will be the next to watch.
