With 2023 rapidly ending, we set our eyes on everything that will come with the following year, games included. So, as such, we’ve asked our staff to name-drop one or several games they are looking forward to playing in 2024. Thus, welcome to The Outerhaven’s Most Anticipated Games!
While this list is rather extensive, we did have one stipulation. Only games that have been dated for 2024 made the cut. While that rule did add a bit of frustration to our staff, as they are passionate about their gaming, it is what it is.
Enjoy The Outerhaven’s Most Anticipated Games of 2024 because we enjoyed putting this list together for you! We can’t wait to get our hands on these games, and we’re sure there are a few games on the list that you also can’t wait to play either.
Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth
William: The lovable protagonist from Like a Dragon, Ichiban Kasuga, returns in a direct sequel that will pack more action, a great story, and… Kazuma Kiryu? What’s he doing here? Unlike the other Yakuza or Like a Dragon game, this title will also take place in Hawaii, as Ichiban Kasuga searches for his long-lost mother, among other things. This will be the longest Like a Dragon game, according to RGG studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama, who calls this a “Monster Class” video game. Meaning that the game won’t be able to be beaten as fast as Like a Dragon was. And that’s great news for fans. Not to mention all those arcade games we’ll get to play.

Scott: In a time where we have gotten countless remasters from Vanillaware, it’s amazing that we are now getting a brand new game from them. Their stories and art design are among the best of the best. Having a tactical role-playing game be their next genre means there will be many new characters and classes to keep track of. Unicorn Overlord seems to be looking like one of their best games yet!

Keith: Fans of Star Wars were surprised to see that there was yet another Star Wars game, and this one looks like it could be fun. An action-adventure game, unlike the ones from Respawn Entertainment that will give players a choice in what happens, set in an open-world environment with plenty of combat, including space combat. It’s also being developed by Massive Entertainment, a team that knows about games like this. Fingers crossed, this turns out good.
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch PC (Steam) Release Date: TBA
Andrew: Final Fantasy VII Remake largely met fans’ lofty expectations for reimagining a classic JRPG when it arrived in 2020. And it only adapted the Midgar section of the original. As such, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has people even more excited since it brings the lion’s share of the 1997 game into the 21st century. This could very well mark the high point of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.

Karl: After multiple beta tests and the slow release of new and returning characters, Tekken 8 is looking to keep the tradition of a solid fighter from Bandai Namco. With 2023 being the year of innovating old fighting franchises for a new audience, can Tekken 8 become the new reigning champion of the Fighting Game Community in 2024?

Shadow of the Ninja Reborn
Keith: Natsume has been on a roll in remaking games that once graced the NES and SNES, with Shadow of the Ninja being its next project. I have fond memories of playing this on the NES when I was younger, while I stayed at my grandparents’ house, after riding my bike for hours to the local Blockbuster video store. The action was terrific, the soundtrack (for its time) was great, and yes, it was a bit hard for younger me, but I loved it. This was one of the games that turned me on to the “kick your ass so much, but you’ll love it” genre. So, you can imagine why I can’t wait to get my hands on the Shadow of the Ninja remake.
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch PC (Steam) Release Date: TBA
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remake
Todd: Why are we excited about The Thousand-Year Door remake? Simply put, it’s one of the best RPGs ever created, and we’re not exaggerating that. The game was so good that the Paper Mario franchise failed to live up to the grandness it produced. So, with this remake, many people will get the chance to enjoy an upgraded experience to one of the best Mario titles ever.
Platforms: Nintendo Switch Release Date: TBA
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Karl: After what feels like forever, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is making its way to PC and consoles this year. This twist on the Superhero game will see you as DC’s biggest and most popular anti-hero team as they take on twisted versions of the Justice League. The only thing more villainous than the Squad could be WB Games’s announcement of making all their games into “Live Games as a Service” model games.

William: This is a remake that Persona fans have long waited for. It was a pivotal game for the series, and to see it brought to the current generation with revamped graphics and gameplay is enough to warrant another trip to the Dark Hour. The theme of Death and Memento Mori is why this game has stuck with fans for so long.

Hades 2 (Early Access)
Keith: Announced in 2022, and to much surprise, Hades 2 is the follow-up to the original Rogue-like, but will feature a different protagonist and a different location. While we won’t be playing with Zagreus, he’ll pass on the torch to his sister, Melinoe, the princess of the Underworld, as she attempts to do battle against Chronos, the Titan of Time. Chronos has captured Hades, her father, and she can’t let that stand. The game will be going into early access sometime in early 2024, and I can’t wait to see what Super Giant Games has in store for our second escapade into the Underworld.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak
Scott: Finally, we’re at the new arc in Calvard for the next entry of the Legend of Heroes series! With new heroes, new villains, and a new tonal shift into a more mature setting, Trails into Daybreak is geared to be an exciting new way to experience the world of Zemuria!”

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
Keith: If there was an upcoming Soulslike I’ve been looking forward to, it’s this one. I was looking forward to it in 2023, but sadly, it was delayed. But that’s okay because what I heard about the game was already impressive, and giving the game a few months to stew could be precisely what the game needed.
This game looks to be the lovechild of Devil May Cry, Elden Ring, and… Mega Man. Combat is fast and features a combo style system – the more stylish you fight, the better your score, which will double as currency. The game features an open world that beckons players to explore it and will include optional dungeons and secret areas. When you defeat bosses, you’ll acquire their powers and add them to your own, hence the Mega Man bit. It looks juicy and exciting. Did I mention you’ll have a companion who looks even cuter than a fox?

Scott: Granblue Fantasy ReLink is a highly anticipated title due to the West finally getting to dig around the world of Granblue Fantasy. These characters are highly loved by those of us who have played Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and it’s a fantastic choice to give us an action RPG to be able to explore the world and its story. The action gameplay is engaging, and link attacks and party setups give us a unique way to replay it. Having so many playable characters in the world is exciting! It’s gonna be so fantastic to get immersed into the world of Granblue Fantasy!

Kevin: Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an overdue follow-up to the cult 2010 Capcom adventure game with the same name. With the Dark Arisen expansion coming out a few years later and the release of the last-gen port of the same game in 2017, fans have eagerly awaited a new entry worldwide. Capcom’s short-lived Dragons Dogma Online only hit Japan some years after the original. Dragon’s Dogma’s rent-a-party system gave players a bit of a connection to each other through their NPC helpers called Pawns. Pawns give players outside insight into other journeys. Pawns would apply their knowledge from other adventures through chatter, hints, or fighting against certain foes.
Capcom has promised a map double the size, the Beastren race, new monsters, new classes, and destructive environments to help or hinder our heroes. For instance, while fighting a Cyclops, a player could cause a flood if they spotted a leak in a mountain. Seeing the environment manipulations adds a new depth we haven’t seen much of in Action RPGs since Scarlet Nexus. I got excited when I saw some of those! Bring back Into Free, too, please!

Silent Hill 2 (Remake)
Karl: It’s been over a year since Konami and Bloober Team announced the remake of one of the best psychological horror games on the planet. Since then, we have heard nothing. Sure, there are rumors about the game being somewhat toned down and changed from its original, including an origin story for the villain character Pyramid Head, but nothing has been confirmed at the time of writing. Silent Hill 2 remake remains as much of a mystery as the fictional town itself, leaving people to wonder if this game is going to disappear into the fog like Silent Hills… Hopefully, 2024 will give us more information or maybe a release for this game.
