Why write with us?

Well, that’s an interesting question. The Outerhaven is an independent geek culture website that has been around since 2011. We provide news, reviews, editorials, and videos on anime, video games, manga, film & tv, and technology to our expanding audience. We’ve attended events such as Comic-Con, E3, PAX, and others to provide a look at the ever-changing geek culture landscape.

The opportunities that are available for our writers are directly tied to the level of drive and passion that our writers demonstrate for our site. Who doesn’t want to see the next big game or watch upcoming anime before anything else? Maybe attend an invite and get invited to interview your favorite developer/voice actor or be surrounded by your peers in this space? If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, then why not write for our site.

What’s in it for you?

We’re currently listed in Open Critic’s review aggregator, and we’re working on being added to Metacritic. We can provide a nice launching pad that can provide you with experience if you’re new to writing or just haven’t had any traction yet. We’ll also teach you the ins and outs of article creation. Or, you know, you could just freelance with us as well.

Positions we’re looking to fill

All our positions are volunteer-based positions. We’re looking for dedicated people who can roll with the punches and won’t bail when things are down. We’ve had some amazing years here and are looking to add more staff to handle everything that the future has in store.

Currently, we’re looking for writers who are looking to actively contribute to the site daily. This also means that we expect you to maintain a high level of quality and grammar in your articles. We want people who love this stuff and are constantly following the news and trends. Someone who knows this stuff inside and out because you’ll be aligned with others who are just as passionate as you are.

Experience with WordPress is a plus, but we will train the right candidates.

Films & TV Writer And Reviewer Application

Are you always on the hunt for the latest trailer? Binging the next big TV hit on streaming? Love to share theories about plots, characters, and upcoming seasons? Then you could be the next Film and TV writer at the Outerhaven! Candidates must be willing to write a minimum of 3 articles per week (news, editorials/opinion pieces, reviews, etc.) and be self-driven. An ideal candidate will possess the desire to contribute weekly and help our site grow. While The Outerhaven is a volunteer site that does not offer monetary compensation, we can offer compensation through review products through our partners such as Simon and Schuster, Penguin-Random House, VIZ Media, Yen Press, One Peace Books, and many others. Video Game News Writer Application

The Outerhaven is looking for those who are passionate about Video Games and Writing to join our team. Candidates must be willing to write a minimum of four articles per week (news) and be self-driven. An ideal candidate will possess the desire to contribute weekly and help our site grow. While The Outerhaven is a volunteer site that does not offer monetary compensation, we can offer compensation through review products through our partners such as SEGA/Atlus, Square Enix, Microsoft, XSEED as well as an extensive list of video game publishers.

Currently, we're looking for people to write about gaming news during the weekdays and weekends. If you are interested, please fill out an application for candidacy.

Video Game Guide Writer Application

We are looking for an individual/s who can create guides for the following games, as well as upcoming titles. If you would like to write a guide for a game that isn't listed, please still apply. This a freelancing gig and will be paid a rate per the rates listed below.

Types of guides we're looking for!

Beginning guides - How to start playing a game and getting familiar with it. An example of this would be our "Mortal Shell Tips – Let Us Help You Stay Alive" guide.

Advanced guides - How to start doing more advanced things in-game. An example of this would be our "How To Play As Zangetsu In BloodStained: Ritual Of The Night" guide.

How-to Guides - Guides that explain how to do something specific, not specific to any game, and can be related to anything. An example of this would be our "How To Transfer Your PS4 Games To The PS5 Over A Network" guide.
