Surgent Studios and the studio’s founder, Abubakar Salim, have revealed that they will release a demo for the upcoming Metroidvania title, Tales of Kenzera: Zau. This title was revealed during the 2023 The Game Award show, and as explained by Abubakar Salim, this title will deal with grief, which will be a unique take on the genre.
According to Salim, his studio has been repeatedly asked if the game will receive a demo, and it finally will during the upcoming Steam Next Fest, which is taking place from February 5 -12, 2024.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau will follow a Shaman called Zau, who embarks on a journey to retrieve the spirit of his Father from the God of Death. From what we understand, Tales of Kenzera: Zau will possess several features, from puzzle solving and Metroidvaina gameplay, that will take place as the adventure unfolds as Zau makes his way across Africa.
Now that a demo is being released shortly, I’m looking forward to trying it. The title looked interesting during the Game Awards, and thanks to the upcoming demo, we’ll be able to try the game before the release date.
The release date for Tales of Kenzera: Zau is April 23, 2024, and it will be released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) while being published by EA Originals.
