While Rockstar Games initially wanted to wait until December 5, 2023, at 6 AM PST / 9 AM EST, to release the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, the rampant leaks forced their hand, and the company released its trailer ahead of schedule.
It’s been 12 years since Grand Theft Auto V was released, along with the various updates and GTA Online. But things have changed, and fans who played Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) will release that Grand Theft Auto VI is taking gamers back to the exact location, now called Leonida State, and has been greatly expanded. It will be interesting to see just how large this new area will be, and more importantly, what sort of stuff players can do in it.
There’s no release date, but Rockstar Games has stated GTA6 will be released in 2025.
A new female protagonist, Lucia
The first thing we see in the trailer is a female called Lucia, who looks to be paroled from prison. She’ll also be the first female protagonist in the Grand Theft Auto games. Now, I know some will argue against that since the original GTA game featured eight playable characters, but they didn’t serve any purpose other than for players to choose a character to track their score. This time, we’re getting a full story in which we get to see what sort of story Rockstar Games has given Lucia.
Who is this unnamed male character
Along with Lucia, a currently unnamed male character accompanies her, and from what we can see in the trailer, is a close friend or accomplice. Maybe he’ll be a secondary playable character; we haven’t the slightest idea. Currently, Rockstar isn’t telling, at least not yet.
Only coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S… for now
Due to the frustration of many PC gamers, the official GTA VI trailer ended by revealing that the game would only be coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, leaving the PC out in the cold. As you can imagine, this didn’t sit well with the scores of PC gamers, who felt that Rockstar Games was doing the same thing to them that they did when GTA V was released.
So far, Rockstar Games hasn’t said if the game will make its way to the PC, but it would be silly not to do so. If anything, we’ll see some definitive edition for the PC that will be released six months to a year after the game is released for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
