Back on April 18th, 2024, Moon Studios—widely celebrated for its Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps titles—ventured into new territory with the release of No Rest For the Wicked, an isometric Soulslike. As a first attempt at the genre, the studio delivered a solid experience, and I played the hell out of it. Honestly, it was pretty damned good. However, the game launched as an early access title, which came with its mix of pros and cons.
On the plus side, early access meant players could jump in, experience the game early, and provide feedback to help shape its future. But on the downside, there wasn’t much content initially, and frequent changes and updates made it hard to stay invested for long. I eventually stepped away for a while, but I knew that Moon Studios was hard at work on bringing new content to the game. Now, nearly a year later, Moon Studios is unveiling The Breach, a massive update that will be released on April 30th, 2025. Oh, and did I forget to mention that this update will be free?
This update is packed with enhancements, new quests, locations, weapons, and so much more. It’s shaping up to be a major infusion of content, giving players who missed out the first time around a compelling reason to dive in. As someone who’s already poured countless hours into the game, I’m thrilled to see what’s coming. However, there’s a small downside—characters will need to be reset due to the sheer scale of new additions and gameplay changes.
Here’s what players can expect when No Rest For The Wicked: The Breach launches on April 30th, 2025.
The Breach update unveils new regions such as Lowland Meadows and Marin Woods, each rich with fresh quests, unforgettable characters, and deeper lore. These lush yet treacherous landscapes pull players even further into the dark fantasy world. Alongside this, players will face The Gloam, a menacing faction of corrupted souls twisted by the Pestilence. This new enemy group brings distinctive combat tactics, challenging players to adapt and rethink their strategies in every confrontation.
Combat in No Rest for the Wicked feels sharper than ever, thanks to the updated parry system and new elemental effects like Freeze & Shatter and Rip & Tear. These additions amplify the tactical depth of the game’s already intense melee system, paving the way for creative and rewarding playstyles.
Players can now ascend their equipment to Exalted status by visiting The Seneschal, a mysterious new vendor who trades powerful gear enhancements for Gloamseed—a rare and valuable resource. This progression loot system will add even more depth to gear customization and player growth.
The Cerim Crucible, the game’s high-risk challenge mode, has received a significant overhaul. With randomized layouts, expanded chambers, and the introduction of Echoes—customizable buffs collected during runs—the Crucible now offers greater replayability and strategic opportunities than ever before.
On top of all this, The Breach brings much-needed performance optimizations and quality-of-life improvements. CPU and memory enhancements, along with various bug fixes, ensure a smoother, more stable gameplay experience. I don’t know about you, but I did have some performance concerns with No Rest For The Wicked, despite running on a beast of a PC, I experienced lots of stuttering. So, I’m glad to see that this has been addressed.
And if that wasn’t enough, Moon Studios has confirmed that multiplayer functionality will be added to the game in a future update.
I’m hyped and I can’t wait to dive back into No Rest For The Wicked. How about you?
