There are certain “events” in our lives that are so special that you just know everyone who can be there will try to be a part of it. It’s not just about “getting something,” it’s about being a part of history! In the case of the Nintendo Switch 2, gamers from all over know that this will be the “hottest console on the market” at launch, and that’s not an exaggeration. Even with the tariff issues and the variable pricing system for its launch title, Mario Kart World, people want the console, especially since they know Nintendo will eventually load it up with the best possible software lineup.
That being said, as we’re now discovering from various regions, the pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have been much higher than many suspected. For example, in France, there were apparently “historic levels” of pre-orders for the new system. Now, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa went to Twitter himself to note that pre-orders in Japan via the My Nintendo Store reached over 2.2 million units!
Nintendo President Furukawa apologized for not being able to meet Switch 2 demand in Japan.
There are more than 2.2 million preorder applications on the My Nintendo Store alone which far exceeds their expectations.

The good news here is that Nintendo does have time to fix the situation, but that high pre-order number showcases just how much Japan wants the new console, and when you add in the pre-order numbers we’re hearing about from France, the UK, and the upcoming US pre-orders, things will get potentially very big for Nintendo if they can get a console to everyone quickly.
