Ed Boon, the creator of Mortal Kombat 1 and head of Netherrealm Studios, is having a wild time at Brazil’s CCXP event in Sao Paulo. So much so, he called upon Quan Chi to appear in a teaser for a tweet.
Quan Chi and Shang Tsung’s clash in the teaser made a reference to their Liu Kang dismembering truce in 2002’s Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance. Shang Tsung hoped the alliance would be more “deadly.” The pre-fight interaction delivers that easter egg. Mortal Kombat 11 meticulously pulled this off in pre-fights, but with at least 3 lines of dialogue for those talks compared to Mortal Kombat 1‘s two lines.

This would possibly mean that Quan Chi’s gameplay trailer would follow this weekend with a few more announcements. Quan Chi’s first appearance was the platform spin-off Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero, yet before that, the short-lived Defenders of The Realm cartoon. The sorcerer has found himself in the mix of many power battles between himself and other bosses of Outworld ever since.
According to the release schedule for KP1, Quan Chi is the next in line with DC’s Peacemaker to come as DLC characters during the Winter 2023/2024 season. Invincible’s Onmi-Man was the most recent character to come to Mortal Kombat 1 with DLC Kameo fighter Tremor.
Mortal Kombat 1 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, and Nintendo Switch.
