A new mechanic introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds is the addition of Pop-up Camps—temporary camps that can be set up in the wild. These allow you to restock potions, gather resources, or change gear without returning to your main camp. You can access them on foot or via mount, making them a convenient option for extended hunts.
While they offer fewer amenities than main camps, their flexibility makes them a valuable tool for hunters navigating the wilderness.
How to Set Up Pop-up Camps
Before setting up a Pop-up Camp, you’ll first need to find a suitable location. This happens automatically as you explore, with either your Palico or your character commenting something like, “This looks like a good place for a campsite.” When you hear this, you’ve found a potential spot.
However, you won’t be able to set it up right away. Instead, you’ll need to return to your main camp first, unless you have a specific item, the Camping Kit.
So, let’s address the first two options first; The Support Desk and Pop-up Camp Meowster!
Visiting the Support Desk
The Support Desk is a place found in every major campsite, and the adorable Palico that runs it gives you access to a bunch of things, including your Pop-up camps.
When you approach the Support Desk, select “I’d like to request support” and then you’ll be able to “Manage Pop-up Camps” or “Edit Pop-Up Camps”.
You’ll be able to select “Manage Pop-up Camps” or “Edit Pop-Up Camps”. To get a Pop-up Camp setup, select “Manage Pop-up Camps”. A list of all the biomes you have access to at the time will appear. Select one and a list of camps you’ve come across will appear.
Each potential camp will display a safety level and how many points you’ll need to set up the camp. Keep in mind that to set up a campsite, you’ll need points, which you’ll accumulate as you do quests, hunts, and gather things.
- Safe means you won’t have to worry about a monster finding and destroying your camp. You’ll need 25 points to set up this camp.
- Insecure means there’s a better chance that a monster might find your camp and might destroy it. You’ll need 50 points to set up this camp.
- Dangerous means a monster will find your camp and will destroy it. You’ll need 75 points to set up this camp.
Once you’re done, you can head back to the prior menu and select “Edit Pop-up Camps”. Here, you’ll be able to decorate your camp with several preset items. It’s like making it your home away from home.
Visiting the Pop-up Camp Meowster
Unlike the Support Desk, the Pop-up Camp Meowster can only manage Pop-up camps and can only be found at the first major camp in the game, Windward Plains.
When you approach the Pop-up Camp Meowster, select “I’d like a Pop-up Camp Built.”
“Manage Pop-up Camps” and “Edit Pop-up Camps” options will appear.
Select manage and you’ll then be asked to select a biome where you want to set up the camp.
A list of all the biomes you have access to at the time will appear. Keep in mind that to set up a camp, you’ll need points, which you’ll accumulate as you do quests, hunts, and gather things.
You’ll then be given a list of locations you’ve found and a safety level.
Using a Camping Kit
Outside of using the Support Desk or the Pop-up Camp Meowster, you can opt to use a Camping Kit, when you come across a potential location. However, these items are rare and you can only get them from quests where you are rewarded or possible rare trades. Sadly, you aren’t able to create them on your own.
With this, you’ll be able to manage and edit your camps just like if you used the Support Desk or the Pop-up Camp Meowster.
