When we first reviewed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, we were disappointed with how the game turned out. And we weren’t the only ones. However, Digital Eclipse has been steadily improving the game with updates, and their latest announcement introduces some major gameplay enhancements that could make a real difference.
This update brings upgradeable Rangers, “morphers” that significantly change the player experience, and new special moves. It’s being released this week, with an expansion to online multiplayer planned for Spring 2025.
One of the biggest changes is the addition of gameplay features that ensure no two playthroughs of Rita’s Rewind will ever be the same. These updates will first be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with the Nintendo Switch version following shortly after.
- Upgradeable Rangers: A new skill point system lets players adjust their chosen Ranger’s strength, defense, and speed. This adds variety to each character and allows fans to fine-tune their favorite Rangers to match their playstyle.
- Morphers: These special modifiers tweak gameplay elements like gravity and speed. Players who prefer the original launch experience, where all Rangers are equally capable, can still opt for that. The ability to mix and match modifiers creates plenty of fun and unpredictable battles.
- Power Blast: Feeling overwhelmed by Robo Rita’s relentless minions? Power Blast knocks back enemies at the cost of a portion of your health bar. It’s a high-risk, high-reward tool that can shift the momentum in chaotic fights.
- Ground Recovery: A well-timed button press now lets knocked-back heroes recover instantly, allowing them to jump back into action instead of hitting the ground and needing to get up. This keeps the combat fast and fluid.
Looking ahead, a Spring 2025 update will significantly expand online multiplayer. Right now, Rita’s Rewind supports three players on two separate consoles/PC for a total of six online players. With the upcoming patch, six players will each be able to play on six different machines using a peer-to-peer connection, making it even easier to team up with friends.
On top of these gameplay changes, Digital Eclipse and publisher Atari have also announced standard and collector’s physical editions of Rita’s Rewind for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. The good news? All of these new features and improvements will be included. The physical versions are set to release on May 30, 2025, and pre-orders are now available.
Whether you’re revisiting the game for another round of morphin’ mayhem or jumping in for the first time, these updates should make Rita’s Rewind an even more dynamic and exciting experience. Time to power up and take on Robo Rita’s forces with a fresh set of tools at your disposal!
