Masters of the Universe: Revelations, the “sequel”, written by cult director/writer Kevin Smith, to the 1980s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon series continues with its third season, renamed Masters of the Universe: Revolution, seeing a full trailer drop onto the internet to promote the upcoming release of the show on January 25th.
The trailer begins with a very somber note, the death of King Randor, leading into one of the main themes of this season: Adam (A returning Chris Adams) must choose between being a King or He-Man. Making the choice even harder is the return of Skeletor (Mark Hamill reprises his role), modified by Motherboard (Meg Foster of Masters of the Universe live-action fame) to serve The Horde and its leader Hordak (Voiced by the legendary Keith David), who looks to be invading Eternia at the same time.
Magic vs Technology looks to be making a return as one of the themes of this season, with Hordak representing technology, He-Man and the Masters representing Magic, and Skeletor as a mesh of both. Many other characters appear on all sides, such as Grizlor, Mantenna, Leech, Snout Spout, Rio Blast, and GWILDOR! (Rumor is that Gwildor is voiced by William Shatner) As well as new forms for He-Man, Teela (Supergirl Melissa Benoist takes over the role from Sarah Michelle Gellar), and Skeletor.
There might even be a bit of romance in this season, with the trailer ending with Adam holding Teela in his arms while saying the iconic “By the power of Greyskull” line as they look into each other’s eyes.
Netflix also revealed the poster for the season, illustrated by Nathan Baertsch, the same artist who did posters for the previous two seasons. Note how the poster shows not only Hordak but Motherboard, Eternian Goddess (aka Snake Teela), Exrendar, Orko, Evil-Lyn, Granamyr (the dragon), a modified Skeletor (Due to what happened in Masters of the Universe: Revelations Season 2), and Kevin Smith’s personal OC (Do not steal or criticize) Andra… Oh, and He-Man is in his Battle Armor… It’s one of the many new outfits our hero will possibly have.
This isn’t the first time we have seen characters from Masters of the Universe: Revolution in action. The first Look trailer (Alongside a batch of images from the show), released in September 2023, showed a fight between He-Man and Scare-Glow. One of the key complaints of the first two seasons was that He-Man was not present for most of the show, leading to viewers of the original cartoon complaining on mass via Twitter. This first look might be a sign that with Masters of the Universe: Revolution is going to change that.
The second look at the show came with the official Teaser Trailer, released in November 2023, which also announced the show’s airdate of January 2024. In this teaser, we get to see and hear Hordak and Skeletor talk about a Horde Invasion while other things happen around the main characters. With this teaser, the older story beats of Magic vs Technology, which was prevalent in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, are looking to return in this new season.
There is still a lot that we do not know about Masters of the Universe: Revolution, even with all this new information. Speculation about She-Ra making her way into the show after her own Netflix series has ended is still around. Others still do not trust Kevin Smith and his direction with the series after the first two seasons (and his blaming of correct sources who called out his bait and switch ahead of time).
Masters of the Universe: Revolution will premiere on Netflix on January 25th. Masters of the Universe: Revelations Seasons 1 and 2 are still available on Netflix if you want to catch up before the new Season drops.
