Not to be outdone by the past, SNK has invited Street Fighter 6’s roster favorites to come out to play on King of Fighters All Star. Ryu and Kyo get to duke it out on the phone stage! The free-to-play, mobile beat’em up RPG game starring several other fighting game rosters and WWE. Ryu, Ken, Cammy, Juri, Jamie, and Guile are ready to show and prove against SNK favorites Kyo, Mai, Kim, and the rest of the large roster from November 28th to December 19th, 2023. Apparently, Chun-Li didn’t get the memo this time.
This isn’t the first collaboration between SNK or even other fighting games. There’s a list for King of Fighters All Star:
- Gintama (2018, 2020)
- Samurai Shodown (2019),
- Tekken (2019, 2022)
- WWE (2020)
- Seven Knights (2020)
- The Seven Deadly Sins (2021)
- Dead or Alive (2021)
- Guilty Gear (2021)
- Street Fighter (2022, 2023)
- Virtua Fighter (2023)
Capcom and SNK have collaborated before with the famous Capcom vs SNK / SNK vs Capcom stint back in 1999-2003. 3 base games from Capcom(Capcom vs SNK: Millenium Fight 2000, Capcom vs SNK 2, Capcom vs SNK 2: EO, Capcom vs SNK Pro) and some SNK games ( SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millenium, and trading card fighters SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash, SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash 2, SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters DS, SVC: Chaos) were made from the pact. Capcom vs SNK 2 being promoted to classics status.
Sign of things to come?
The SNK vs Capcom series mostly boasted a 2-3 man team run on either end. Match of the Millenium went near all tag, which was impressive for a handheld fighting game at the time. SNK’s bankrupcy was noted to halt Capcom vs SNK 3 from ever being made, according to interviews and Eventhub. SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millenium and SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash did get Switch re-releases. Thanks to an announcement at the Evo 2022 main tournament, fans speculate that SNK and Capcom will join for soon. Though, Capcom has proven recently that it’s hard to make a collaboration now than it ever has been. Marvel vs Capcom Infinite was the last attempt out of production in 2017. Tekken x Street Fighter being the best example of it now, with Katsuhiro Harada – Producer of Tekken – stating that it’s still alive. It’s just not in active development. Priorities, Priorities.
Two posters done by long-time SNK-turned Capcom artist – Shinikiro – and Eisuke Ogura were given out at the event. There’s still hope to see Geese Howard vs Akuma again. Well, just out of their Tekken 7 3D planes, of course. Perhaps King of Fighters All Star will prove to be the gateway. Also, what will Street Fighter 6 do regarding the collaboration for King of Fighters All Star?
King of Fighters All Star is available for mobile devices everywhere.
