In Granblue Fantasy Relink, there are lots of different sigils that supplement various things, from giving you extra health and keeping you alive if you die to handling your damage output and more. In this guide, we’re going to clear up a misconception I’ve heard a lot of, and sadly, reduces the damage output of anyone who isn’t paying attention when it comes to damage sigils in Granblue Fantasy Relink.
Especially two sigils that are responsible for doing so major damage output: Attack sigils and Damage Cap sigils. So, let’s get you up to speed and have you take down all the major baddies with some major damage output.
What’s the difference between Attack and DMG Cap sigils?
As mentioned, the attack and damage cap sigils are mainly responsible for your damage output in Granblue Fantasy Relink. Sure, there are others like critical tit sigils and critical damage sigils, so name a few. However, Attack sigils and Damage Cap sigils are constant damage, so even if you never crit with an attack, you’ll still be doing solid damage. The thing is, both the attack and damage sigils work hand-in-hand; it’s a balance.
While the attack sigils are nice and do help your damage out, you’re still governed. The more of these you have, the more damage you do. That much is simple. However, the game limits how much attack power you can dish out, but it doesn’t tell you that. For example, let’s say your favorite character can dish out 100% of damage, which sounds great. But what if the game doesn’t tell you that if you add a damage cap sigil, you can push that up percentage of damage done with a dmg cap sigil. That said, the dmg sigils are hands down some of the best sigils in Granblue Fantasy Relink.
Plus, just like any sigils in the game, dmg cap sigils can be upgraded. So the more you upgrade them, and the higher-level ones you find, the more you’ll push that damage cap higher and higher.
But with the damage cap sigils, you can raise the damage output ceiling and surpass the limited output that the game restricted you to. I do wish the game did specify this a bit more, but it is what it is. In fact, certain characters also have abilities and weapons that help break them through the damage reduction ceiling.
Let’s see it in action.
With and Without Damage Cap Sigils equipped
Here’s an example of Rackam, one of my favorite ranged classes due to ease of use and high ranged out. I’m provided two images: one with attack sigils and one with damage cap sigils equipped.
With dmg caps equipped, my dmg cap is at a pretty dismal 15%, and that’s only because the weapon that I upgraded gave me that. Outside of that, this means all my attack sigils are useless as I don’t have any dmg cap sigils equipped, and all that attack power is being wasted. At this point, I may as well be hitting enemies with wet noodles and will be useless at the higher difficulties.
But with damage caps equipped, things start to look different. For example, if my attacks hit for 15,000 without dmg cap sigils. But with several now equipped, I’d hit for 220% extra damage (2.2) or 33,000 per attack. That’s much better.
Where to Find Dmg Cap Sigils
There’s no single place to find the dmg cap sigils, and even then, there are multiple levels of the sigil; farming dmg cap sigils will test your luck at various locations and quests. Here’s how I found the dmg cap sigils that I have, and mind you, there might be other places to find them as well.
- Opening Curios at Zathba’s shop located in Seedhollow
- Transmuting Sigils & using Transmarvel at Siero’s Knickknack Shop
- Beating high-level bosses on Proud difficulty
These are the most convenient ways to get dmg cap sigils, while using transmarvel seems to be the only way to get high-level dmg cap V+ sigils. Sure, you can get some on Proud difficulty, but the goal is to have them before you get to Proud so you can do major damage.
Farming Knickknack Vouchers and turning them in to transmute sigils, while racking up the transmarvel, is ideal. Especially if you have many sigils and treasures you want to eliminate.
What does it all mean
Attacks will hit for the same damage, no matter how strong you get or how many attack sigils you add, unless you have dmg sigils to push you further past the dmg ceiling. Yes, dmg sigils are worth more than attack sigils, but they also need attack sigils for the attack power. You can’t stack dmg sigils with no attack power, and you can’t simply stack attack sigils without dmg sigils that increase your output.
It’s a balance, and I’d stack them both unless the character you’re using has some monstrous attack power.
