Paradox Interactive has revealed that Crusader Kings III, its genre-defining medieval strategy RPG, has officially sold over four million copies across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The milestone was reached earlier this year and marks a major achievement for the franchise as it approaches its fifth anniversary.
“Seeing Crusader Kings III succeed in both the computer and console spaces is such a treat for us!” said Game Director Alexander Oltner. “Millions of people are engaging with history and writing their own dramatic tales of success and failure, which is a major goal of ours. CK3 turns five this year, and we’re happy to know that there are millions more stories waiting to be told.”
Released in late 2020, Crusader Kings III blends deep strategic gameplay with rich character-driven storytelling. Players take the reins of noble houses in a sprawling medieval world, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to India and from the Arctic Circle to the edge of the Sahara. Through political scheming, warfare, marriage alliances, and a healthy dose of chaos, they carve out dynastic legacies unique to each playthrough.
The game continues to evolve. Earlier this year, Paradox announced Chapter IV of its content roadmap for PC, which features the largest map expansion in series history. With the upcoming update, players will be able to explore and rule over territories in East and Southeast Asia for the first time, opening new cultural and political frontiers.
As Crusader Kings III enters its fifth year, it’s clear the throne isn’t up for grabs just yet.
