At long last, we have a release date for Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name (Kimi no Na wa). According to a promotional video, the movie will release on DVD and Blu-Ray on July 26, 2017 in Japan. Of course, this is bad news for Western audiences as an international release date is still rumored to be in October; however, if you’re willing to pay the import fees, it will do you well to know that the Japanese release of the movie will feature English sub-titles!
Features that will come with all of the Blu-Ray and DVD editions include:
- English, Japanese and Chinese Subtitles
- The English version of each RADWIMPS song
A special collector’s edition of Your Name will include the above features along with the following:
- Promotional, Event and Music Videos
- 100 Page Booklet
- A Pocket-sized Movie Script
- Miniature Character Stickers
The collector’s edition will cost 12,000 yen ($105 USD). A special edition with just booklet and stickers will run 7,800 yen ($68 USD). The standard Blu-ray will run 4,800 yen ($42 USD) and the DVD version will run 3,800 yen ($33 USD).
The movie opened in Japanese theaters on August 26, 2016 and in U.S. theaters on April 7, 2017. Your Name went on to become the most successful animated movie in Japan’s history, beating Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away. Your Name has won a myriad of awards around the globe that are too numerous to mention. The movie has already generated close to $5 million in the U.S. alone and continues to see success worldwide. In fact, we are eight months after the initial release and Your Name is STILL playing in Japanese theaters!
