Playtonic Games announced today that the first major update for Yooka-Laylee is on the way. In a post on their website, they state that the update will include “significant improvements and introduce some of the most requested features.”
Along with some general polish throughout Yooka-Laylee, the major change that will be addressed is the camera. As it should be. I’ve spent a few hours with the game and I have a few issues getting the camera to do what I wanted. In it’s current state it’s not awful, but if I noticed it in a few hours of game time, that’s not a good sign. Here’s a preview of the new camera in action.
Many of the new features noted will cater to the speedrunner community. The update will allow for quicker skipping of dialog and cut scenes, as well as “reduce those pesky gibberish voices.” At the time of this writing, the current world record listed on speedrun.com is held by TheRedSock who beat the game in 34 minutes and 48 seconds. These changes will surely shake up the scene.
We should have more details from Playtonic Games in the coming weeks. Yooka-Laylee was released on April 11, 2017 for PC, Linux, Mac, PS4, Xbox One with a Nintendo Switch version on the way. Be sure to check out our review of Yooka-Laylee from Andrea right over here.
