13 Reasons Why is a show that has garnered a lot of talk. From a Twitter meme to discusses about the dangers of narratives that treat suicide like a revenge fantasy, it’s become one of the service’s more popular shows. New rumors have surfaced that there might, in fact, be a season two in the works.
Now, that raises some questions. The premise of the show is that teenager Hannah Baker commits suicide, but not before recording thirteen tapes about the events that led to her decision, each intended for a different person she knew. I am sure you can see why some mental health advocates think the show is bad — it creates this idea that you can get revenge by killing yourself or you can use it as a tool to hurt others. However the bigger issue is how do you keep a show going about a character who is already dead and whose vengeance is complete?
There are a couple of theories rolling around the web from the show’s many fans. One is dealing with the further implications of Hannah’s death and just surviving high schools. Another is a school shooting, given that the series revealed one of the character has a huge arsenal of fire arms and plenty of reason to use them. There is also another suicide at the end of the show that could be explored further. There also not one but two trials in the works, with very important consequences for the show.
Netflix would be stupid not to take the opportunity to bank on yet another surprise hit. Some already believe that Season 2 is in the making, since Ross Butler dropped out of his Riverdale role for, thus far, no reason. So for those who need their fix of teen drama and cruelty, it might be closer than you think.
