The end of an era!
It’s no secret that Blizzard was looking to rebrand their formerly know Battle.net. They only announced this a few times, but today marks the end of Battle.net. A recent update for Blizzard’s popular client was pushed out today, removing the previous name of Battle.net. But what was the new name for the both the client and the service?
Well, Blizzard is the name. Yes, Blizzard simply named the service, Blizzard. Which happens to fall in line with keeping all of their services under one name. Battle.net was originally launched on November 30, 1996, and has ended on March 24, 2017.
What’s changed other than the name? Well, nothing actually. There won’t be any changes to the service we know and love, well other than the name. Rest assured, the new service and client will continue to launch Overwatch, StarCraft II, Diablo III, Heroes of the Storm, and World of Warcraft, just like it did yesterday.
Though, to be completely honest, I’ll still call it Battle.net. Can change over 20 years of gaming in one day.
