Sony has announced that they’re making a huge change to their PlayStation Now streaming service. That change is that the service will now support PlayStation 4 game, something they had mentioned quite some time ago. This announcement comes two weeks after Microsoft announced their new gaming service, Xbox Game Pass.
Sony will start testing the PS4 games as part of the service and will be sending invitations out to current PS Now subscribers. Check your email if you’re already a subscriber, so looks like I better check as well.
As many of you know, PlayStation Now lets you stream hundreds of PS3 games — currently 483 to be exact — to your PS4 and Windows PC.
We’re excited to announce that PS Now’s catalog is set to grow even further, as we’ll be expanding to include a new platform: PlayStation 4 games. All of the games in the service, including PS4 games, will be included with a single PS Now subscription. We’ll share more information as we get closer to launch, so stay tuned.
In the next few weeks we’ll kick off a private test with PS4 games on PS Now. If you’re an active PS Now subscriber, keep an eye on your email in case you get an invitation.
Currently, PlayStation Now affords PS4 and PC owners the ability to stream PlayStation 3 games for $20 a month/$45 for 3 months/$100 for a year. No word on when Sony PlayStation 4 games will be playable on the PlayStation Now service. Games will still be streamed on both the PS4 and PC, which will still introduce latency or lag to whichever game is being played. Unlike Microsoft’s service which will let gamers download the games to their consoles via hardware.
Still, this is big news for the service. Yet, one has to wonder how Sony loyalists will take this news. More so, will it add fuel to the already combustible flame war between gamers? What do you think about the upcoming change and do you think this is a positive or a negative change?
