Shown off on their official Twitter page, Famitsu showed their content page of their latest issue, featuring The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. What is quite eye catching is the symbolism behind the art.
As you can see, it shows off the original Link of the NES and SNES reincarnation, passing off the Master Sword, or Sword of Rebirth for Breath of the Wild, to the new Link of Breath of the Wild. What I can take from this page is that there have been 30 years of Zelda history. From the late 1980’s all the way till now, we as fans grew with the franchise. Now that the Nintendo Switch is days away and Zelda Breath of the Wild with it, there is a transition of generations. The old generation giving way to the new brand of Zelda fans that Breath of the Wild will bring.
Naturally, we of the old generation will be there and play Breath of the Wild as well, but perhaps we can impart something to this new generation. Wisdom? Courage? Power? No doubt many who were with Link since the beginning, they now have their own children, someone else to give and impart to. Maybe the art is symbolic of a parent’s send off of their child who is now ready to take on the world by their own.
Overall, this piece invokes many emotions and ideas for me. With only a few days away, Zelda: Breath of the Wild will surely give way to a new brand of Zelda fans.
Zelda: Breath of the Wild will release on March 3 for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
