The line-up for the upcoming EVO Fighting Championship has been posted. We’re willing to bet that some of the choices will trigger some people. In the new line-up, we see several returning games, some new ones, while old favorites were dropped. I don’t know who makes these lists, but I feel there’s definitely a miss here.
In addition, the 9th title will be chosen by the fans of the fighting game community, but more on that below.
So, what games made the cut?
- Street Fighter 5 (Sunday Finals)
- Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2
- Smash Bros. for Wii U (Sunday Finals)
- Smash Bros. Melee
- Injustice 2
- BlazBlue: Central Fiction (Sunday Finals)
- Tekken 7 (Sunday Finals)
- King of Fighters 14
- Players’ choice based on community donation to charity (Sunday Finals)
Gone from the line-up are Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Killer Instinct. Both titles were replaced by Injustice 2., A game that hasn’t even been released yet, hasn’t been tested, nor has any community what so ever. Perhaps, the minds behind the selections know something we don’t. I’m not even going to into the fact that Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, perhaps one of the biggest and beloved isn’t on the roster. The times have changed when Nintendo has more fighting games in the EVO line-up than Capcom.
All isn’t completely lost for your favorite title that didn’t make the cut. Several of the games that were pushed out still have a chance. As mentioned, the 9th game will be chosen by the fight game community via a charity donation drive. Everyone is welcome to contribute by heading to www.generosity.com, and voting for your choice.
- ARMS
- Pokkén Tournament
- Mortal Kombat XL
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo
- Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
- Skullgirls: 2nd Encore
- Killer Instinct (Xbox One/PC)
- Nidhogg
- Windjammers.
I’m happy to see ARMS in the running, but let’s be honest here. The game is either going to be Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 or Mortal Kombat XL. Surprisingly, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom is leading, with Killer Instinct right behind it, currently.
