The official Star Wars Twitter account revealed the title of the next chapter of the main saga today: Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The announcement was paired with an image of the Star Wars logo in red lettering against an empty starfield, similar to the first teaser poster for Episode VII unveiled at Star Wars Celebration in April 2015.
Set to pick up where The Force Awakens ended, The Last Jedi will most likely follow Rey’s Jedi training with Luke Skywalker while The First Order recovers from the loss of its Starkiller Base. While the title of this chapter sounds ominous, potentially implying that only one Jedi will remain by its conclusion, it’s possible that it may also simply be indicating that the story will focus much on Luke, who is currently the last Jedi in the galaxy.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released in theaters on December 15, 2017.
EDIT: As multiple sources have pointed out, ‘Jedi’ is both singular and plural, which makes room for even greater speculation on this chapter’s title.
