Stardew Valley, a fantastically and deceptively fun farming simulation game that was originally a PC exclusive is finally making its way to consoles. While it was announced previously, we now have the official releases dates for Stardew Valley. The Xbox One version will be released on December 14, 2016, while the PlayStation 4 version drops December 13, 2016. Pre-orders will start tomorrow for Xbox One in North America via the Microsoft Store, while pre-orders for the PS4 version will only be available in Europe.
We’re going to have Stardew Valley on consoles in just two weeks away, damn that’s pretty exciting.
Sadly, there’s a bit of bad news as it was originally stated that Stardew Valley would also be ported over to the Wii U. This has been scrapped in favor of porting Stardew Valley over to Nintendo’s upcoming console, the Switch. It’s not big news that the support for the Wii U has been low for quite some time, with many companies looking to port upcoming titles that were in production for the Wii U, over to the Switch. Things just are looking good the Wii U, as this game would have been right at home on the console.
Stardew Valley will not be coming to the Wii U, however. Looking at Wii U and the current gaming landscape, we made the difficult choice to shift our development efforts to creating a version for Nintendo Switch. I am really looking forward to the Switch, and I believe that the Switch’s unique capabilities could create some exciting opportunities for Stardew Valley. I do want to emphasize that I am absolutely committed to seeing Stardew Valley on Nintendo platforms, and I really do appreciate your support and understanding in this. -Ape
While I’m happy to see that this title is making it’s way over to the consoles, mainly due to me always wanted to check it out but in the company of my entire family. Especially my wife and daughter, they love games like this and are huge fans of Animal Crossing, while I get to relive my days of playing Harvest Moon yet again!
