Fans of DC, rejoice! The cult favorite show Young Justice will be getting a third season three years after its initial cancellation. The show followed a group of young heroes looking to establish themselves while dealing with typical teenage trials and tribulations.
The press release was short, simply saying: “Season three promises new twists, turns, and dangerous new threats for the team. But most importantly, the opportunity for fans to finally continue the adventures of some of their favorite Super Heroes.” While vague on the storyline, it is clear that there’s not going to be any radical changes to the show’s premise.
“The affection that fans have had for Young Justice, and their rallying cry for more episodes, has always resonated with us,” said Sam Register, the President of Warner Bros. Animation, “We are excited to bring the show back for this loyal fanbase and to provide an opportunity for new viewers to discover this excellent series.”
The show was canceled in 2013, due to poor toy sales. The show has a large female fanbase, which made some in the community wonder if the cancellation was in part due to their inability get their desired demographic to buy the select merchandise. This was later confirmed by an interview with DC producer Paul Dini, who outright said that the executive at Warner Brothers were not interested in a female audience.
Hopefully, DC won’t try to somehow correct that in the new season and stick to what made the show popular in the first place: thoughtful story and well written characters. One Teen Titans Go! is enough for all of us.
There’s no news as to when Young Justice Season 3 will premiere, where, and how much of the original cast will return to reprise their roles. However, production has begun, so consider it an early holiday gift from a company who is scrambling to rebuild goodwill as its live action ventures continue to slip.
