The Nintendo Switch during its reveal commercial showed that it already had support from many major 3rd party companies. Not surprisingly, one of them was Level 5, who had created the very popular Professor Layton series for the DS and 3DS, and the recent hit Yokai Watch.
In an interview with Vandal.net, which was translated by Gematsu, CEO Akihito Hino noted that while there will be games on the Switch by Level 5, they won’t be there at launch. The reasoning of which is actually rather simple:
“We plan to make games for Nintendo Switch, but I think it’s very important to find out the best way to get the most out of the console. For that reason, we won’t have any titles at launch, but we’ll work with it as soon as we figure out how to take advantage of it.”
This is actually a very safe thing for the developer to do, as in the early days of all consoles, there is uncertainty as to how far a person or developer can push the new hardware. While many of the details of the Nintendo Switch has been revealed, the developers no doubt have the full specification list, and now have to decide how to use it to it full potential.
The test will be to see how many of the 3rd party developers do this at launch. It also raises the question of what games Level 5 could bring to the system. Could Yokai Watch come to the console? Or the rumored rebirth of the Professor Layton series? Or how about Ni ni no Kuni? What would you like to come to the Nintendo Switch from Level 5? Let us know!
