A few days ago, both Nvidia and the Coalition have started banning Gears of War 4 PC game codes that were obtained via sketchy methods. An exploit was abused over at Amazon.com, where you could purchase either a GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 and were provided a free game code for Gears of War 4. It was later discovered that when you purchased the card, the code was sent prior to the card being shipped and that you could simply cancel the order. Seeing that Amazon doesn’t charge you until a product is shipped, this enabled people to get access to an unmentioned amount of Gears of War 4 codes. These codes ended up being sold over at Reddit, as well several popular internet forums.
These codes have now been deactivated, leaving many buyers in the cold as their codes were now invalid. It also seems that legit buyers of the video cards are also being affected, however, those buyers can contact Nvidia directly in order to get either the code reinstated or a replacement code. They will need to provide a copy of their sales receipt for this to happen. For everyone else, their own recourse is to contact the seller and either get another legit code or a refund. If you already happened to redeem the code, the game has been disabled in the Windows Store, forcing you to contact the place where you purchased your video card.
It’s also worth mentioning that if you purchased your GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 Amazon and have a revoked game code, that they likely won’t be able to assist you with a replacement. Looking at the updated Nvidia promotion page, they have removed Amazon from the promotion. It has been reported, however, that Amazon will provide a gift card amount in place of the game, so you can purchase Gears of War 4 via the website.
I also happened to purchase a GTX 1080 during the time of the promotion, but purchased by card at Microcenter and was able to redeem the game with no issues.
Gears of War 4 releases for the Xbox One and Windows 10 on October 11, 2016, or on October 7, 2016, if you pick up the Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition.
