While I could spend time talking about the special membrane keys that make up the layers on tech that is the Cooler Master MasterKeys Lite L Combo’s keyboard, I’d rather just talk about how smooth the keys feel under my fingers as I type away at this review, something that is missing from more high-end mechanicals like the HyperX Alloy FPS. Going from the overly noisy “clack clack clack” to a more standard “click click click” that you would find on a standard keyboard is a godsend. Also the ability to transition from key to key in a nice smooth motion that doesn’t interrupt me during a gaming session. Unlike the other keyboards I’ve played with recently, I’m not having to feel my way around the keys to fix my fingers in the right spot to move my Paladin around during a long boss fight in World of Warcraft, nor during a harsh firefight during my long sessions with Window Lickers in Overwatch.

All of the above is made possible by the custom Mem-chanical key system that Cooler Master has come up with. While I do call this a mechanical keyboard, technically it’s not. The way the keys are set up with a layer of rubber under every key that keeps the noise down while keeping the precision up to standards set by other mechanicals. Frankly, I would place the Cooler Master MasterKeys Lite L Combo’s keyboard right up there with the HyperX Alloy FPS mechanical keyboard, and it’s only a fraction of the price which is a huge plus in Cooler Master’s favor.

Now the mouse that you get with it is a lot like the other basic mouse that other companies have out there. A simple 7 button layout consisting of right and left mains, a scroll wheel button, a special DPI button below the scroll wheel and the now standard forward and backward buttons on the side. The mouse overall is a smooth unit with no annoying rubber grips on the sides or backs which would usually make moving around annoying and also leaves a black mark on my hands as the rubber wears down. The laser is accurate as anything else on the market and makes the whole thing feel like a nice bonus that was included with the Cooler Master MasterKeys Lite L Combo Keyboard rather than something of a package deal. The small size of the mouse isawkwardd to get used too after using a Razer Naga for the last year. But hey, it’s not a bad little mouse. It works.

So the other thing that I haven’t talked about is the flash design that comes with the Cooler Master MasterKeys Lite L Combo. Taking a queue from the Razer Chroma series, the Cooler Master MasterKeys Lite L Combo is one of those keyboards and mouse sets that has a great bunch of rainbow coloring effects. Some of the highlights are the explosion effect of pressing a dark key that explodes into a single color. Other things like the rainbow stream effect that can really mess up your sight after a while is not too bad. Also the fact that the mouse does not sync up with the keyboard at all no matter which setting you put them both on is really sad since other brands can do that pretty easily.

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. The Cooler Master MasterKeys Lite L Combo is a budget version of every top branded mechanical rainbow keyboard and mouse set that is on the market in a single package. I really can’t complain about this unit at all since it goes for a fraction of the price of it’s nearest competitor. It does the job and if it’s like all the Cooler Master hardware that is in my PC, it’s going to last me for a long long time to come, much longer than anything more expensive and “cooler” branded.
