It was a time of celebration and reflection yesterday as the countries of the world gathered one last time to celebrate the Olympic games that occurred in Rio this year.
At the end, Japan revealed a special video that showed Mario, the iconic gaming character from Nintendo, taking a warp pipe from Japan to Rio, and on the stage in Rio, Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe came out of the warp pipe donning a Mario cap.
The point of this was to show off that Japan would be the host of the next Summer games in 2020, which are set to take place in Tokyo. The video that came after this staging showed off the country in full glory, including its technological prowess and wonder.
It’s not really a surprise that Mario made a debut per se, as the plumber has been “at” the Olypmics for many years now via the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games titles, which have coincide with both the summer and winter game events, including one at Rio.
With the Olympics over, maybe Nintendo will start dropping info about Mario in other avenues, such as for the upcoming NX console, or maybe a new game for the 3DS, only Nintendo knows if that will happen, and when.
