Square Enix has announced that Nier: Automata will be out early 2017 on Steam for PC and Playstation 4. When the trailer was shown at E3 2016, we thought it looked pretty great, but we didn’t get much. Now, Square Enix has released a few more screenshots and given us a little something to go on as far as the story is considered, which you can read below.
Invaders from another world attack without warning, unleashing their secret weapon: the machines. In the face of this insurmountable threat, the human race is driven from the earth and takes refuge on the moon.
The humans develop an army of android soldiers to fight back against the mechanical horde, but succeed only in slowing its advance. To break the deadlock, a new breed of android infantry is sent into the fray: the YoRHa squad.
In the forsaken wasteland below, the war between the machines and the androids rages on. A war that is soon to unveil the long-forgotten truth of this world…
Some of the people working on this game are coming from some first rate titles, like Final Fantasy XIV, Dragon Quest X, and Bravely Default, so I expect this game to hit the mark. I am a little surprised to see no Xbox One release announced, since the original Nier was available for PS3 and Xbox 360. The screenshots themselves don’t show us anything we didn’t see in the trailer, but the story bit makes me pretty excited for this game. I get excited about anything android related, really, and Nier: Automata has much more action that Detroit: Become Human.
