Did you hear that? It sounded like a thousands voices all screaming “Why is Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U? That in it’s self is an interesting question and I’m here to put my own spin on things, so take this with a grain of salt, alright? Good! So as you are likely aware of the sequel to the acclaimed title Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 has found it’s self a home on the Nintendo Wii U… Forever. That’s right, Nintendo is publishing the title and has exclusive rights on it until the end of time, you won’t find this on a Microsoft or Sony console (under the same name at least). But why you ask, why does Nintendo have this title? Isn’t Nintendo considered casual by gamers? Why would something of this caliber be on a Nintendo system? How do they expect it to be popular on a kiddy system?
Well I can’t help you there as far as many copies it will sell on the Wii U but for Platinum’s sake, let’s hope a lot. Now for why this is even on a Nintendo system perhaps we should inquire this to Sega. Remember when Sega announced that they were dropping the axe on all but core titles as part of their restructuring? Not only did they plan to close several offices across the globe but they put a huge restriction on their gaming focus as they only will focus on their strong IP’s such as Sonic the Hedge (which is only strong in name anymore), Total War, Football Manager, Phantasy Star Online (?), and digital distribution.
What else did this restructuring involve? Did it involve severing ties with companies that were seen as a risk with little to no major track record? Let’s be real for a moment shall we? As much as I like Platinum Games they’ve made some really silly mistakes in the past such as putting MadWorld only on the Wii, Infinite Space on the DS, whicle on the flipside they’ve done great with Bayonetta , Vanquish and Anarchy Reigns doing respectable on both the Playstation 3 & Xbox 360 (In Japan). Perhaps Sega didn’t think that was enough, perhaps they didn’t reach the expected numbers that Sega had in mind for those titles. Who knows but no matter how to slice it it definitely seems that Platinum Games has thrown their entire weight behind the Nintendo Wii U with both Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101 (formerly Project P-100) and possibly Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for the Playstation 3 & Xbox 360 in the Western / Eastern market except JAPAN and perhaps just the Playstation 3 & Wii U in JAPAN (since it was cancelled for the Xbox 360 in JAPAN)!!!
Of course those are speculations of yours truly but you gotta wonder why this all transpired. Did Sega actually drop Bayonetta 2 since it was stated that this title was in the works for some time now, only to have Nintendo rush in and save it, putting Nintendo into the graces of Platinum Games? Perhaps this is best summed up from a famous line from an equally famous lollipop, since Bayonettaa loves them so much.
