Earlier this year, Capcom sent out a press release revealing that Mega Man will be returning to television screens in 2017 with a new animated series. The show will be written and produced by Man of Action, the company responsible for Ben 10 and characters from Big Hero 6. Fans have also been given a “sneak peek” via a Capcom blogpost at what our beloved Blue Bomber will look like in the new show, and while this is literally all that’s been shown, reactions are not pretty.
Tron comes to mind.
Here’s a quick glimpse at the plot:
“The new animated Mega Man series will follow Aki Light – a normal, upbeat, and above all optimistic young school-aged robot living in Silicon City. He soon learns that deep within his programming are secret protocols that allow him to transform – giving him nanocore armor, a Mega Buster, and the iconic helmet to turn him into a superhero – Mega Man!”
I loved the animated Mega Man series of the 90s. My mom worked early on weekdays and would drop me off at my grandma’s before school. I always arrived just in time to catch the the show. As a Mega Man fanatic, it was awesome to see all the characters animated. I’ll always remember that show fondly. This new series just seems wrong and according to the comments on Capcom’s blogpost, I’m not alone. My favorite comment is from Metal, who said this new image “looks like Ben Tennison from Ben 10 cosplaying as Mega Man.” Others have stated outright that “they’re done.”
Just to make you feel better (or worse, depending), here’s a link to episode 1 of the original Mega Man animated series. Enjoy.
