The Overwatch open beta has come and gone and it was time for Blizzard Entertainment to crunch some numbers. We already knew that some 9.7 million players enjoyed the beta. A good chuck of them are frothing at the mouth (myself included) waiting for that 4pm PST / 7pm EST hour come Monday when the flip is switched and we all pray that a repeat of #Error37 doesn’t happen again. Despite all of this, we must ask how well the beta actually did. Typically, you don’t see companies post these kind of numbers without the beta stress test being a monumental success, but these numbers show that Overwatch’s open beta was just that.
Here are the mind-blowing stats:
- Over 9.7 million players from over 190 countries took part.
- 4.9 billion minutes played.
- 37,623,607 matches completed.
- Average Match lengths:
- Assault – 6 Mins
- Escort – 7 Mins
- Control – 9 Mins
- Hybrid – 7 Mins
- 9,002,592 Payloads delivered.
- Most picked heroes:
- Offense – Soldier: 76
- Defense – Widowmaker
- Tank – Reinhardt
- Support – Mercy
- 1,369,749,063,663 total damage dealt with 168,015,096,011 healing done.
- 87,103,442 loot boxes earned.
In addition to mind-blowing stats, Blizzard Entertainment is, once again, going all out for the promotion of this game. Just like when the embedded a massive Gorehowl into the hood of a taxi for World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, Blizzard has placed giant Overwatch action figures all around the world!
Blizzard has Tracer sitting comfortably in Hollywood, Genji in France, and Pharah in South Korea.

Overwatch will be available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
