Howdy! Nitro here, with another rendition of Weekly Audio Spotlight!
(Eventually I’ll actually manage to get one out every week… -_-)
Anyway, this week the light shines on an amazing little known game by the name of Hard Corps: Uprising.
Though Contra is not in the game’s title, be not deceived. Uprising is actually Konami’s most recent addition to the Contra universe, with it’s story taking place sometime before 1994’s Contra: Hard Corps, released for the Sega Genesis.
This prequel is available on XBLA and PSN, and a few months ago Playstation Plus subscribers actually had access to this game for free. But enough about that, we’re here to talk about the music!
Is the style familiar to you? Well, if you play BlazBlue or Guilty Gear, I’d expect it to be. Hard Corps: Uprising was developed by Arc System Works, the very same creators of those franchises, and the musical composer of the game’s soundtrack is the one and only Daisuke Ishiwatari, renowned for his hard-rocking excellence when it comes to VGM. He’s pulled no punches here, giving the player amazing, adrenaline-pumping tunes to rock to while shooting up any and everything in this game.
Both the game and the soundtrack are an absolute blast to experience, so do yourself a favor and give Hard Corps a try if you haven’t already.
