It would appear that Playstation 2 emulation is making its way to Playstation 4.
In a report from WIRED, the news comes from the release of several classic Star Wars titles included in the recent Star Wars Battlefront PS4 bundle. The games in question, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, all seem to run on the PS4 using emulation software, according to Digital Foundry (via Eurogamer). A representative from Sony later confirmed the emulation, stating in an email to WIRED:
“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”
Emulation is assuredly coming, but it is unknown whether this is in a digital form (PS2 classics on PSN), or the ability to insert a PS2 game disc and play on a PS4. Hopefully it’s both.
You can watch the analysis from Digital Foundry of the emulation below. Let us know in the comments what PS2 games you’d most like to play again.
