Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix, made the announcement in an interview with The New York Times that he is hopeful that Netflix will make a great anime show. This endeavor is part of a plan that Hastings has to increase Netflix’s unique programming content. This endeavor forecasts that Netflix will spend nearly $5 billion on this content in 2016. Netflix is becoming less and less of a stranger to anime as they have already aired the Knights of Sidonia series upon its completion in Japan. They are also planning on premiering Ajin – Demi-Human three days after is premiers in Japan. In addition to other anime shows, it is currently streaming The Seven Deadly Sins and will premier Smile Precure! starting on December 18, 2015.
This comes after Netflix has successfully launched in Japan back on September 2, 2015. The launch marked Netflix’s first official time being broadcast in an Asian country.
