Well, looks like that rumor wasn’t a rumor after all. Konami has provided an official statement regarding the closure to Gamespot.com and has indeed confirmed that the Los Angeles based Kojima Productions studio has been shut down.
“KONAMI has made the decision to close its Los Angeles Studio, effective immediately, due to the product development resources being restructured into a more centralized unit. This facility contributed to the recent METAL GEAR SOLID games. KONAMI will continue its operations to support all METAL GEAR SOLID titles, including the recently launched METAL GEAR SOLID V: The Phantom Pain and METAL GEAR ONLINE. METAL GEAR ONLINE is still scheduled to release for PC Steam in January 2016.”
If you ask me, that reply seems a bit cryptic. Especially the part where they say “due to the product development resources being restructured into a more centralized unit”. Wouldn’t it make sense to that the resources from the LA and allocate them else where instead of terminating their jobs and giving them the boot?
Something fishy is going on there Konami, I just can’t put my right arm’s finger on it.
