Castle Crashers was a side scrolling beat ’em up that launched digitally on the Xbox 360 way back in 2008. The Playstation 3 would receive a port years later in 2010, and 2012 for the PC. Well known for being a great party game with friends, up to 4 players could connect locally or online. Players start off with one of four main knights, each with a different color and skill: Red (Lightning), Orange (Fire), Green (Poison), and Blue (Ice) with many more characters unlocked along the way, such as the alien from Alien Hominid.
The campaign involves a basic story in which the player is tasked with rescuing 4 different princesses and fighting goblins, monsters, and even other knights along the way. While the story was a bit generic, the gameplay, fun visuals, and ease of control was a big drawing point.
Fast forward to 2015, and Castle Crashers is being remastered for the Xbox One. The game will run at 60fps, and boasts textures 5x the size of the original. The remastered game will still contain everything that made it a hit, allowing for both online and local couch co-op. Castle Crashers Remastered will also feature a new game mode: Back of Barbarian, in which players must navigate across the map avoiding enemies.
Castle Crashers Remastered arrives to Xbox One on September 9th, 2015 for $14.99, but there’s more. If you already own a copy of Castle Crashers for the Xbox 360, you’ll be able to trade-up to the remastered version for FREE, but only up until September 21, 2015. Afterwards you’ll have to pay $5 to get in on the action.
