It was announced that the Tale of Fairy Tail: Ice Trail and Fairy Tail Zero spinoff mangas are soon coming to an end. The announcement was made in the 12th edition of the Kondansha Fairy Tail magazine, which is a special magazine completely dedicated to Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail series. The series will end in next month’s edition of Kondansha, which will publish in Japan on July 17, 2015.
Tale of Fairy Tail: Ice Trail tells the side story of Gray Fullbuster after the events that occurred with Ul and Deliora. It follows Gray’s journey and how he met Gildarts who told him about the Fairy Tail guild. This manga was actually created by one of Mashima’s assistants and closest friends Yuusuke Shirato.
Fairy Tail Zero is a side story that follows the first master Mavis and her time on Tenroujima Island. One day a band of thieves show up to steal the precious Tenroujima Jade, but discover it’s gone missing. Mavis makes the three take her along in their search and a friendship, and ultimately, the guild known as Fairy Tail, is created.
Hiro Mashima and Yuusuke Shirato both started their respective spinoff mangas in the same issue of Kondansha’s Fairy Tail magazine one year ago in July in 2014. Fairy Tail has spawned two television anime seasons, the second of which is currently airing, two anime movies, and another spinoff manga called Fairy Tail: Blue Mistral, which follows Wendy’s beginnings.
The other announcement came in the 13th volume of Hiromu Arakawa’s Silver Spoon (Gin no Saji) manga. It was strongly hinted that the 14th volume of the manga will see the story reaching its climax. Silver Spoon follows the life of a boy named Hachiken who attends an agricultural school and learns about farm life. This is a drastic change from Arakawa’s most famous work, which was Fullmetal Alchemist.
The manga went on hiatus due to the health of a family member, however, Arakawa was happy to report that their health was improving and her manga would be returning to serialization soon. Her intent is to slow down the pace of her manga in order to assist in family affairs.
Silver Spoon is the winner of the 2012 Manga Taishou and Booklog award as well as the 2013 Shogakukan Manga Awards in the boys category. The manga has spawned two television anime seasons, both of which have been licensed and released in the U.S. by Aniplex. There was also a live-action movie adaptation that aired in Japan back in March of 2014. Hiromu Arakawa is also the character artist for the Arslan Senki manga as well as the television anime.
