A post on the Destiny Reddit made a list of claims regarding Bungie’s rumored fall DLC release for Destiny. Among them were standard additions: New PvP Maps, Strikes, a Raid (though we’ve heard that one before). What made the post mind blowing for the fans was the claim that not only would there be an additional subclass added for Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks, but there would be an entirely new faction to use those new supers on. One can only kill so many Thralls and Dregs. Unfortunately, the public did not get to see the source, as the thread was modded at the behest of the original poster. What he showed the moderators, however, seemed to “look legitimate.” The original, cached post is linked below courtesy of Polygon.
Not too long after, Kotaku reported that they had received leaked marketing materials confirming these details and more. The new subclasses will each utilize the element missing from the arsenal of each respective class (Warlock-Arc, Titan-Solar, Hunter-Void), and the new enemy factions (the titular Taken) will be led by none other than Oryx, father of Crota himself. For the uninitiated, Crota was the public enemy number one in the first DLC. The materials given to Kotaku list the DLC at $40 with a release date of September 15.
Destiny has been prone to numerous leaks and data mining. A photo of an older content schedule had set September as the release date for a larger expansion named “Comet”. More recently, snapshots of a planned Red Bull promotion tagged the name “The Taken King”. As of now, Bungie has yet to confirm any of these details, but we know that they have plans for E3. Their last Weekly Update ended with this: “You might have seen mention of Bungie this or Destiny that on E3 schedules. We’ll have some things to tease. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
Fellow Guardians, get hyped.
