Drowned out by the news of the official reveal of Suicide Squad’s Joker, the comic book side of DC comics had some news to share as well. The legend, Frank Miller, has returned to DC and is working on another sequel to The Dark Knight Returns; The Dark Knight 3: The Master Race.
The Dark Knight Returns is arguably one of the best graphic novels ever written, by any publisher, was the graphic novel that revolutionized Batman as a character, and is the main influence for the upcoming movie Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Originally made in 1986, a sequel was made in 2001, The Dark Knight Strikes Again; however, that sequel never quite captured the same magic and was not received well by fans.
This time around it looks like Frank Miller is looking recapture the magic from the 1986 epic. Frank Miller has recruited Brian Azzarello, whom has a name of his own writing excellent works including 100 Bullets, New 52’s Wonder Woman, Joker, and Luthor. With both Azzarello and Miller working on the third-part of the series, we are in for a treat!
Miller said in the press release, “Batman remains my favorite comic book hero and a sequel to Dark Knight is going to be daunting, but we’ll do our best.”
Azzarello chimed in as well saying, “It’s been an amazing experience collaborating with Frank these past six months. I think we have an epic story that these characters truly deserve.”
The Dark Knight 3: The Master Race will arrive this fall as a bi-monthly, 8-part miniseries.
