If you own a PlayStation 4 and have always wanted to go toe to toe against a celebrity, you may just have the chance. Sony announced Playstation Heroes (not to be mistaken with PlayStation Move Heroes for PlayStation 3), a new approach to get gamers to donate to charities like the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the United Service Organizations.
PS4 owners will be able to download the PlayStation Heroes app starting on February 24th. From there, participants can purchase digital items, with 90% of the proceeds going toward a charity. Lucky winners will then play against that month’s Celebrity PlayStation Hero in a pre-announced game. Naturally, the more one donates, the higher the chances of being selected are. PlayStation Heroes will act as a form of social media, giving users the ability to makes posts and earn badges. Games between PlayStation Heroes will also be streamed to the PlayStation Heroes app for viewers to enjoy.
This will be an ongoing monthly project starring new celebrity players each time. Professional snowboarder Sean White has been tapped as the first PlayStation Hero for the month of March and will be playing Destiny. Golden State Warriors Point Guard Stephen Curry and Rapper Snoop Dogg will also be joining as celebrity players later on in the year.
