It’s sometimes hard to enjoy things in the video game space when certain developers and publishers try to put things “under a certain lens” to judge their success, especially when “certain publishers” have ridiculous expectations for their titles. In the case of Clair Obscur Expedition 33, though, the script was truly flipped. Sandfall Interactive was just 30 people strong and wanted to make a title that paid tribute to all the great RPGs, among other titles, that influenced them when they were younger. As Metacritic revealed, the result was one of the best games of 2025.
However, the success didn’t stop there. As many have noted, including the dev team, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has sold 1 million units in just 3 days!
And here we are.

That’s incredible! Plus, it flies in the face of certain narratives about story-driven titles or even “shorter games,” as this one is only about 30 hours long. Congrats to Sandfall Interactive on this achievement, and we all look forward to the next game you make.
