Microsoft continues to make the promise of any electronic device possible in fact being “ an Xbox” more of a reality, as they’ve officially added Xbox Cloud Gaming to select LG Smart television models.
Anyone who owns a 2022 LG OLED TV, 2023 or later LG Smart TV’s, and smart monitors that run WebOS 24 or later should be able to download the Xbox app via the LG gaming portal. Then you’ll be asked to sign in to your Microsoft account and once it verifies your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, you’ll be asked to pair a compatible Bluetooth controller (which includes official Xbox ones and even a PlayStation 5 Dualsense or PlayStation 4 Dualshock as well), and after that, the entire Xbox Cloud Gaming library becomes immediately available and playable on the app.
Games You Could Play Today on the Xbox App via Xbox Cloud Gaming
This addition comes out at a great time as the release slate for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and by extension Xbox Cloud Gaming has never been stronger in terms of quality and quantity of releases occurring all at once. Joining Xbox Game Pass Ultimate grants subscribers access to not only wide breath of Xbox studios’ back catalog of games, but also 2025 new releases from first-party titles such as Avowed and South of Midnight and the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered to third-party indie gems such as the highly rated Blue Prince and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Although not the perfect solution for every game type, for many of the games on offer it can provide an adequate experience, especially for those who don’t own a Xbox Series X/S or Xbox One, or perhaps even a stellar PC. I tested out several games yesterday myself on my LG C3 OLED and games such as Blue Prince and Avowed worked really well. A fast twitchy shooter like Mullet Madjack did suffer from some laggy moments though, but perhaps using a wired connection may improve that somewhat. So this may not be the best way to play the upcoming DOOM: the Dark Ages either.
However, something in-between those games like the newly released Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 which mixes exploration with turn-based and action combat elements, actually works pretty well and I was able to still hit the parry on several enemies playing on Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Obviously each person’s individual results may vary and it is also heavily dependent on your internet speed as well, but having used it on various devices in the past from my Galaxy S21 while on a 5G connection at a store or using a Chromebook at a doctor’s office I could play less reflex heavy games with no issues at all. So if you have a decent internet connection, (the recommendation is at least 20GB) and a bluetooth controller and want to play some of these games on your LG TV, it may be worth giving it a shot.
