Ubisoft has announced that the first major post-launch update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on April 8, 2025, which will deliver several quality-of-life improvements, gameplay tweaks, and technical fixes. Titled Update 1.0.2, this patch marks an important milestone for the game as the development team continues to refine the player experience in response to community feedback.
Title Update 1.0.2 will go live on April 8 at 2 PM UTC / 10 AM EDT / 7 AM PT and here are the sizes per platform.
- Xbox Series X|S: 19.5 GB
- PlayStation 5: 11.59 GB
- PC: 16.05 GB – (I’m assuming this means Ubiconnect)
- Steam: 11 GB
- Mac: 9 GB
Among the additions is the return of a much-requested feature: Horse Auto-Follow. Players can now activate the pathfinder mechanic to have their mount automatically follow the road toward a designated waypoint, freeing them up to enjoy the scenery or prepare for their next objective. Ubisoft has also increased horse movement speeds within cities to make traversal through urban environments feel faster and more fluid.
Another significant addition is the ability to reset Mastery Nodes within the skill trees. This gives players more freedom to experiment with different builds, whether they’re optimizing for stealth, combat, or utility. Both protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, can now be fine-tuned more dynamically without being locked into previous decisions.
Inventory management—a frequent pain point in open-world RPGs—also sees a major improvement. With this update, players can tag and sell or dismantle multiple items simultaneously when visiting merchants or working at the Forge in the Hideout. The change should significantly reduce the tedium of managing gear, especially for players who frequently loot and explore.
In terms of user interface enhancements, the update introduces a new shortcut for the Investigation Board, a core gameplay system in Shadows. Players can now access it instantly by holding down the option (DualSense) or menu button (Xbox), while a quick press still brings up the inventory menu. The change is designed to make it easier to switch between major in-game tools like the World Map, Inventory, and Investigation Board with minimal interruption.
Title Update 1.0.2 introduces PSSR (PlayStation Super Resolution) support, offering improved image quality and fidelity for those who own a PlayStation 5 Pro. However, Ubisoft notes that players who had been playing on PS5 Pro prior to this update will need to manually enable PSSR in the pause menu’s video settings. Balanced Mode now includes Raytraced Specular effects, narrowing the visual gap between Performance and Quality modes while preserving smoother frame rates.
The patch also includes several smaller, yet meaningful, improvements:
- The Hideout area is now uncapped above 30 FPS in Performance Mode.
- Boss fights have undergone balancing adjustments to improve pacing and challenge.
- A bug that caused the pathfinder line to appear in Photomode screenshots has been fixed.
- An inconsistency with the Kunai-throwing perk while using The Tool Master Gear on Naoe has been resolved.
- Double assassinations have been made more consistent and visually satisfying.
- Naoe’s responsiveness in certain gameplay situations has been improved for smoother control.
This update represents Ubisoft’s continued effort to shape Assassin’s Creed Shadows into a more polished and player-friendly experience. While the game launched with a solid foundation, feedback from players has already begun influencing the evolution of its systems and mechanics.
More updates and new features are expected in the coming weeks, signaling an ongoing commitment to post-launch support.
