Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was first revealed during Xbox and PlayStation showcases, immediately drawing comparisons to Nioh and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty with its early gameplay footage. While the initial presentation had some rough edges, fans of those action RPGs will likely find Wuchang: Fallen Feathers intriguing due to its familiar yet promising mechanics. Following this, in late January 2025, several Chinese content creators got access to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, where lots of positive information was shared and gameplay released.
The game follows Wuchang, the protagonist who is locked in a desperate battle against monstrous mutations and god-like entities. While details on the narrative and gameplay remain scarce, the game’s haunting atmosphere and deep integration of Chinese mythology already help it stand out in the crowded Action RPG and Soulslike genre.
What remains unclear is whether Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will fully commit to its Soulslike foundation, lean more into action RPG elements, or find a balance between the two. Regardless, the game has captured my attention, and I named this as one of the Action RPGs that you should be following in 2025.
As for why I’ve made it a point to highlight that this is a Chinese-developed title, well, it’s because it matters. This will be the second major title to come from China recently, following the success of Black Myth: Wukong, a title that impressed everyone who played it. Leenzee Games is looking to capitalize on the momentum and I can’t wait to see how Wuchang: Fallen Feathers performs when it gets released.
While early access sign-ups are now open through 505 Games, there’s still no official release date. With sign-ups now available, could a launch date be on the horizon? If so, let’s just hope it’s not another March 2025 release.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will be released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) when it eventually gets released.
