Recently, the developer People Can Fly announced on its website that it will be collaborating with Microsoft’s Xbox studio, The Coalition, on the development of the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day.
This partnership is promising news for People Can Fly, which has faced significant challenges lately. In December 2024, the studio laid off 120 employees as part of cost-cutting measures to stabilize its financial position. Co-developing Gears of War: E-Day could mark a turning point for the studio and help it regain momentum in the industry.
Sebastian Wojciechowski, CEO of People Can Fly, shared his excitement: “Returning to collaborate on the next chapter of this legendary saga is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity to build upon the intense, visceral action and rich storytelling that fans have come to love. We are deeply grateful for our partners’ trust and support on this journey.”
The collaboration is notable, given People Can Fly’s history with the Gears of War franchise. The studio previously developed Gears of War: Judgment, a spin-off that has divided fans. While some consider it one of the series’ standout entries, others regard it as its weakest installment.
As of now, no additional details about Gears of War: E-Day have been revealed. The last update came during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, leaving fans eagerly anticipating more news.
Gears of Wars: E-Day will serve as a prequel to the Gears of Wars series, as players will play as the ironic character, Marcus Fenix, as he faces the Locust Swarm during the events of Emergence Day, known as E-Day.
Gears of Wars: E-Day doesn’t currently have a release date, but is being developed for the Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC. However, there are rumors that the title may also end up on the PlayStation 5 as well. So far, Microsoft/Xbox hasn’t made any official announcement regarding this, but with its stance of bringing Xbox games to the PlayStation platform, those rumors may be true.
