There’s plenty of irony going on in the DC Comics universe right now. The Superman side of things has arguably “never been stronger” via the dramatic ending of Superman & Lois mixed with the record-breaking trailer for the upcoming James Gunn film about the Man of Steel. In contrast, Batman has been struggling to get traction on things outside of the comics (seriously, check out Absolute Batman; it’s really good!) recently. You’d think that after the success of The Penguin, DC would be pushing hard to get more content with him out, but The Batman 2 has been delayed once again, and that’s not the only delay featuring The Dark Knight.
Focusing on the “Reeves-verse” for now, Deadline confirmed that The Batman 2 has been pushed back to October 2nd, 2027. That’s a full-year delay from the initial 2026 release date. Plus, recall that the first film came out in 2022 (though it was initially meant to be 2021, but the pandemic pushed it back), so we’re waiting five years for the sequel. Those who have been “reading between the lines” will know that this isn’t exactly shocking, as multiple stars of the first film had noted that they hadn’t gotten a script yet, nor had production been set to start soon.
But wait! There’s more. If you recall, James Gunn announced that a Batman film called “Brave and the Bold” would be done by Andy Muschietti, yet in an interview with California Secreta, he said:
“The Batman [The Brave and The Bold] project has been postponed a little bit. I might do another film before that.”
At this rate, it could be quite a while indeed before The Dark Knight graces the film or TV screen with his presence again.
