Every shared universe property wants to get off to a great start. The DCU, which is headed up by James Gunn, decided to go a unique route to kick things off by releasing the animated series Creature Commandos on Max. The animated show features a set of “non-human expendables” mixed with a certain human handler, going after things that are far too dangerous for regular people to go up against. The show has been a hit with fans, and now, it’s been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that Season 2 has been greenlit.
James Gunn and his co-DCU head, Peter Safran, had this to say on the renewal:
“We’re thrilled to team up with Max for another season of Creature Commandos mayhem,” “From our spectacular first season of Peacemaker to the astonishing run of The Penguin to the record-breaking launch of Creature Commandos, Max has consistently delivered above industry expectations and beyond our wildest imaginings. Thank you, Casey, Sarah, Pia, Sono and the entire team for your tremendous support of DC Studios. We are proud to call Max home.”
This is indeed a big win for Gunn, who has already had success on Max via Peacemaker, and is hoping to keep everything rolling next year when the live-action debut of the DCU starts with the anticipated Superman film.
