The Steam version of The Rogue Prince of Persia Won’t include Ubiconnect Support

What was promised has now been taken away

Evil Empire, developer of the roguelike title, The Rogue Prince of Persia and Dead Cells, is walking back an already mentioned feature for the Steam version. While Evil Empire had initially suggested that Ubisoft Connect integration would be available after early access, it’s now confirmed that the Steam version won’t have any Ubiconnect functionality. The developers have stated they’ll only consider adding save transfer features if there’s enough player demand.

We said that Ubisoft Connect would be an optional-only feature at 1.0, but things have evolved.

There will in fact be no Ubisoft Connect at all for the game on Steam.

Now we are aware that some people might have wanted Ubisoft Connect in order to do cross-saves with consoles. If this is requested by a lot of players at 1.0, then there are other ways we could address cross-saves and we can explore that if/when it comes :)

It seems Evil Empire may not see the effort as worthwhile, instead waiting to gauge player interest. If the feature was initially promised, it should have been included—unless a technical issue arose. However, such challenges should have been considered before making commitments to player

That said, it’s worth noting that Evil Empire did keep its promise to remove Denuvo from the game for its Steam release. While I appreciate this decision, as someone who isn’t a fan of the anti-tamper security software, I know I’m not alone in that sentiment. Denuvo has a controversial history, causing performance issues in games and even preventing some players from accessing their games after hardware changes like swapping out motherboards or graphics cards. It’s a frustrating system, yet some still consider it worthwhile.

The Rogue Prince of Persia roadmap 2025

The Rogue Prince of Persia is now available on Steam for $19.99, with Ubisoft confirming this price will remain steady, at least through January 2025. If you’re on the fence about purchasing it, the game offers an enjoyable experience for fans of Roguelikes and I recommend it, despite the bummer update on things.  Evil Empire has been on the ball in terms of providing updates and new content, and it is fully devoted to getting this game over the finish line.
